Artist, curator, teacher. Alister Karl has been a practicing artist for more than two decades. Working in a range of media and disciplines Alister expands the boundaries of what drawing can be, creating immersive installations and environments.
Always with a sense of humour, Alister explores personal and shared identity, the experience of individual and cultural memory and the cult of individualism fascinated by the little histories that are being erased every day.
I am interested by the ways in which we selectively recollect, often embellishing memories with the patina of sentimentality. Yet, within these memories lie the seeds of false longing, a yearning for a reality that might never have existed.
Wrapped up in these false longing Alister concerns him self with conspiracy theories, the more ridiculous the better, and how the internet helps fuels these ideas.
